The year 2022 uniquely celebrates 50 years of the first UN Conference on The Human Environment (Stockholm, 1972) as well as establishment of the UN’s Environment Program (UNEP) located in Nairobi (Kenya). UNWEP@50 event was held in Nairobi during 3-4 March 2022 and, as decided by the UN General Assembly’s modalities resolution 75/326 (10 September 2021), Stockholm+50 Conference will be held during 2-3 June 2022.Of the 14 resolutions adopted (02 March 2022) by the UN Environment Assembly 5 (UNEA-5) include setting up of an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee with the mandate to forge an international legally binding agreement to end plastic pollution and enhancing circular economy for sustainable consumption and production.As mandated by the UNGA’s modalities resolution, the Swedish capital Stockholm is getting ready for the historic Stockholm+50 event that will provide an opportunity to reflect upon the global regulatory approaches hitherto followed by the UN member states. It remains to be seen if it will resonate with the futuristic call given on 5 June 1972 by late Olof Palme, Prime Minister of Sweden that: “in relation to the human habitat, there is no individual future, neither for people nor for nations.
