From a knowledge-based view, this paper regards an organisation as a knowledge market and suggests that an efficient market mechanism is the key to the retrieval, sharing and further creation of the knowledge base/market. A conceptual framework is proposed for exploring the relationships among knowledge market mechanism, knowledge creation mechanism, organisational learning capability and knowledge creation performance. This paper surveys leading manufacturing and service firms in Taiwan. The results show that the relational mechanism within the knowledge market mechanism and organisational learning capability are particularly important for knowledge creation performance. Managerial implications of the research findings are discussed.
