After the globalisation of markets, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have been under tremendous pressure to integrate themselves with domestic as well as global suppliers and customers to sustain their competitiveness. In this scenario, the availability of the right information at the right time is very essential for serving the fast-changing market needs. Effective application of Information Technology (IT) tools and their management can help SMEs in this regard. This paper attempts to analyse different issues related with IT implementation, such as market pressures, constraints, investment priorities and the application of IT tools in different operations, and their relationship with performance. The importance of IT for SMEs is further illustrated with the help of a case study.
