Biometrical approach in the pelvis surgical reconstructive treatment The surgical reconstructive treatment in the pelvis area is induced mostly by the bone tumour resection. This paper presents a new method for computer-assisted reconstructive surgery-planning based on the pelvis statistical shape model. A clinical pelvis reconstruction case will demonstrate the usefulness and robustness of the statistical shape models in the oncologic surgery planning. In addition, a quantitative evaluation of the matching quality will be given. By creating the statistical shape model, we get a mathematically defined mean pelvic geometry. Abstract

The surgical reconstructive treatment in the pelvis area is induced mostly by the bone tumour resection. This paper presents a new method for computer-assisted reconstructive surgery-planning based on the pelvis statistical shape model. A clinical pelvis reconstruction case will demonstrate the usefulness and robustness of the statistical shape models in the oncologic surgery planning.
