Las Zoonosis son enfermedades transmisibles entre los animales y el hombre. La triquinelosis es una enfermedad zoonotica causada por diferentes especies, subespecies y cepas de nematodos del género Trichinella. En humanos, la infección más prevalente es causada por T. spiralis la cual tiene una amplia distribución en todo el mundo, constituyendo un problema de salud pública. Trichinella spp. son nematodos inusuales comparados con la mayoría de los parásitos intracelulares. T. spiralis afecta a todos los mamíferos y puede ser transmitida al hombre por la ingestión de carne o productos cárnicos mal cocidos o crudos que contengan quistes viables.
