Malattia leventinese, es una distrofia retiniana, autosómica dominante, y se ha ligado a mutaciones en el gen EFEMP1. Está causada por un defecto metabólico en el epitelio pigmentario de la retina (EPR). Se presenta un paciente de 40 años en cuyo fondo de ojo se evidencia una alteración del EPR con pigmentación fina y drusas blandas. El paciente fue revisado 5 años después y no refería cambios en la agudeza visual. El diagnóstico de esta enfermedad, escasamente descrita, es fundamentalmente clínico, basándose en la exploración de fondo de ojo. Exige un diagnóstico diferencial con la degeneración macular asociada a la edad (DMAE). Un análisis genético permitiría hacer un diagnóstico más exacto.
