El Virus del Papiloma Humano (VPH) juega un papel importante en la iniciación y progresión del Cáncer Cérvico Uterino (CaCU). Sin embargo, se requieren otros factores para que se desarrolle esta enfermedad, por lo que se considera que VPH es un factor necesario pero no suficiente en la patogénesis del CaCU. Se han postulado una gran variedad de factores genéticos, epigenéticos, inmunológicos y ambientales. En esta revisión, exploramos la hipótesis de la desregulación de la vía de señalización de Wnt/beta-catenina como un segundo evento necesario para el desarrollo de CaCU.
