The performance effects of productmarket and international diversification were examined in a sample of 156 U.S. corporations. Three sets of performance measures were used 1 profitability, 2 riskadjusted returns, and 3 growth. Results suggest independent effects on profitability, and interactive effects on riskadjusted returns and growth. Results also clarify seemingly conflicting findings on productmarket and international diversification effects on performance.
