It is an area that requires a simultaneous focus on economic and social value being created, specifically to address voids in the market caused by social issues. Social entrepreneurship looks to identify and exploit opportunities to create products and services that benefit society and the economy. Social entrepreneurship has been found to flourish under two distinct situations. Firstly, it can occur in an environment where there is extensive government support and abundant resources. This is known as the institutional support perspective. The concept is that in an environment where there is the right amount of resource and supportive government institutions, social entrepreneurship will be well supported and therefore flourish. This can be seen in many developed nations, such as the West, where there are large pots of money to support social entrepreneurial initiatives. Here, extensive government support facilitates the balancing act between social and economic benefit output.
