'They Will Listen to no Remonstrance': Land Raids and Land Raiders in The Scottish Highlands,... Remonstrance': Land Raids and Land Raiders in The Scottish Highlands, 1886 1914 Ewen A. Cameron ' Protests concerning the land issue in the Scottish Highlands between 1882 and 1886 have received a great deal of attention. Similarly, the series of land raids which occurred in the years immediately following the end of the Great War have been studied at length.1 Aside from Dr Hunter's bold attempts link these two periods, the important series of protests which occurred in the period from 1886 1914 have t received sufficient attention.2 This article has two objectives; first, provide some detail on these events and second, analyse the objectives of the raiders. However, prior an exploration of these points it is necessary make some general comments on land raids. Some were demonstrations of a general grievance with the structure of land holding or the perceived inadequacies of government policy. Others were directed wards a specific piece of land, the occupation of which was desired by the raiders. Thus incidents of widely differing scale can be included under the general label of land raids.
