The Problem of the Scottish Baronial Interior or the all-too successful Quest for Discomfort

The Problem of the Scottish Baronial Interior or the all-too successful Quest for Discomfort One of the problems with Scots Baronial architecture was that, having created a suitable external aspect for a house, there was no obvious way in which architects or designers could treat the interior. The requirement to be, on the one hand, consistent with the exterior and, on the other, consistent with modern demands for comfort and convenience was very dfficult to meet. Various solutions were adopted but most of them failed to resolve this dilemma. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Architectural Heritage Edinburgh University Press

Abstract

One of the problems with Scots Baronial architecture was that, having created a suitable external aspect for a house, there was no obvious way in which architects or designers could treat the interior. The requirement to be, on the one hand, consistent with the exterior and, on the other, consistent with modern demands for comfort and convenience was very dfficult to meet. Various solutions were adopted but most of them failed to resolve this dilemma.
