The Jamaican Plantation House: Scottish Influence

The Jamaican Plantation House: Scottish Influence Jamaica, from the late seventeenth to the early nineteenth century, was one of Britain’ most lucrative colonies. The wealth of the island was created by two industries: sugar and, later, coffee. Their business interests established, their large and imposing processing works, aqueducts, mills, boiling and curing houses built, the more prosperous plantation owners turned their attention to building increasingly substantial and interesting homes. Jamaica's greatest architectural glory lies in these plantation buildings. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Architectural Heritage Edinburgh University Press

Abstract

Jamaica, from the late seventeenth to the early nineteenth century, was one of Britain’ most lucrative colonies.
