This paper will examine certain types ofarchitecture prevalent today which appear to obscure, displace or devalue meaning; explore the extent to which such architecture pervades the interstices ofour daily lives; and will propose an operational programme aimed at restoring to architecture its role as carrier and transmitter ofcultural meaning.
