Afghanistan is a refereed journal published twice a year in April and October. It covers all subjects in the humanities including history, art, archaeology, architecture, geography, numismatics, literature, religion, and social sciences, from the pre-Islamic and Islamic periods. Articles are not restricted to the present borders of Afghanistan and can include the surrounding regions, but must materially relate to Afghanistan. Please direct submissions and questions to the Editor-in-Chief, Robert D. Crews: rcrews@stanford.edu Articles must not have been published previously (even on blogs and other online fora), nor can they be under consideration for publication elsewhere. Preferred language is English. UK or US spelling is acceptable. Irrespective of choice, use “double quotes except when ‘quoting a quoted text,’ and place all punctuation inside the quote mark.” Manuscripts should not exceed 10,000 words including footnotes. Manuscripts must be in 12-point font, double-spaced including footnotes. Please use a Unicode-compliant font like Jaghbub Uni (EUP’s preferred font), Times New Roman or Gentium Plus. Submit only Microsoft Word (Windows or Mac) files. The journal follows a double-blind review process; please anonymize the text to the best of your abilities. A 100–150 word abstract must be included. Include 5–8 key words and ORCID identifier (if applicable): https://orcid.org/ Transliteration is optional, but must be consistent throughout. Footnotes are used throughout (see below for further guidance). Reference style and guidelines are available at: https://www.euppublishing. com/page/afg/submissions Supply full reference within footnotes; no separate bibliography is required. Transmit images and inserts as separate files (i.e., do not embed in text). Supply high resolution images (min. 300 dpi), and supply caption copy for each image, and indicate the image’s preferred placement within text. Tables should be supplied as separate *.doc/*.docx files only. Please do not embed the tables, but do indicate where the table should be inserted, with a caption. While we seek to be as accommodating as possible in submissions, for the sake of clarity and consistency, the editors reserve the right to a final decision. Inconsistent styles in the manuscript will cause it be returned for revision.
