DOI: 10.3366/jshs.2013.0065 The complexity of the historiography of Scottish migration to the Commonwealth of Poland-Lithuania is indicated by the linguistic skills demanded of scholars working in the field. As Almut Hillebrand has shown, an early interest can be detected in the German-speaking world, at the very moment at which the Commonwealth was being partitioned out of existence (and, simultaneously, the Scottish ethnic community that had existed there since the fourteenth century was going into eclipse). More recently, Polish and, to a lesser extent, English-language publications have comprised the majority of contributions to the field. We are lucky, in Peter Paul Bajer's book, to have a monograph that advances towards collecting together in one place this historiographical yield and which, in addition, offers several new and even unexpected leads. Given the 17951918 history of the same geographical space, it would be ludicrous to ignore the importance of the German perspective.
