After all, a new multi-volume series on the same subject (from the same publisher) is in mid course and the research thus generated, together with that spawned the concurrent Buildings of Scotland volumes and the Royal Incorporation of Architects in by Scotland's Illustrated Architectural Guides, is bound to add enormously to our knowledge over the next decade or so.
