Edited by Michael Copp (Cambridge: Lutterworth Press, 2009). xi+397 pp. ISBN: 9780718892135. In Imagist Dialogues Michael Copp presents a judicious selection of correspondence between key figures in the modernist literary network. Foremost are Richard Aldington and F. S. Flint, who too often are treated as mere footnotes to the canon of early twentieth-century literature. This volume sheds new light on their lives between 1909 and 1925. Two hundred and twenty-eight of the letters published here appear in print for the first time; eight letters to Flint are otherwise inaccessible to scholars, as they are held in the private collection of the Flint family (though these offer little by way of revelation). The bulk of the letters in the volume (151 of 255) are from Aldington to Flint, and the first surviving letters between them date from 1913. Aldington’s peripatetic lifestyle and periodic habit of clearing his library and literary holdings mean that few letters to him have survived: only four are in this volume. As a result, Copp’s selection of letters from Flint draws mainly on his correspondence with other literary figures, the largest selections being to Harriet http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Modernist Cultures Edinburgh University Press
