Nominal Record Linkage Revisited Whereas some recent writers on historical psephology1 have tended to stress the desirability of semi-automated linkage methods that continue to rely on a high level of manual interaction with the data, Charles Harvey and Edmund Green here offer a rigorous alternative approach based on the selection of optimal linkage algorithms that can be used in a fully automated procedure. Can we look forward to a future article in which some disinterested third party provides the results of a comparative evaluation of these rival methodologies, preferably applying them to the same body of data?
