The Society was formed in 1983 to provide a focus and outlet for new historical research. It continues in this role and its membership includes professional historians, undergraduate and postgraduate students, archivists, librarians and museum curators, school teachers, local historians and genealogists; indeed people from all walks of life with an interest in Scottish History.
