YES,LORD! The Church of God in Christ Hymnal A Review by Jon Michael Spencer* l'es, Lord.', the official hymnal of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), was published in 1982, the church's diamond jubilee year, by the COGIC Publishing Board, Memphis, Tennessee.• Two years in the making, the project was conceived by Bishop Nonnan N. Quick and commissioned by Presiding Bishop J. 0. Patterson . Bishop Patterson's preliminary criteria for the hymnal was that it be distinctly stamped "COGIC." Yes, Lord! is named after a praise song of the same title by the venerable church founder, Bishop Charles H . Mason (1866-1961). Preceding even the Table of Contents, this theme-song functions as an introduction to the hymnal. At its foot is this annotation: Yes, Lord! The sound of this phrase bespeaks a high exaltation found in God. Since the inception of The Church of God in Christ , the praise , "Yes, Lord! " , has carried a wealth of spiritual mean ing .
