We are happy to publish our fi ft h thematic issue "Intermedi al Aesthetics: Korean Lite rature, Film, and A rt" guest edited by Theodore Hughes and Jina Kim. This issue focuses on the "transgressions of boundaries between medi a" that Wern er Wolf defines as intermedi ality. Unde r this theme the guest edito rs have assem bled a variety of articles that address such things as identity issues posed by new elect ronic medi a; how the absence of No rth Korean partici pation in the 2014 Korean pavilion at the Venice Biennale created "an in-between space" that is paradoxically neither No rth nor South Korea; how write rs adapted fo reign films as conies during the Coloni al Pe riod to avoid censorshi p; how canonical lite rary works of the 1930s were adapted to film in the 1960s; Korean-Taiw anese interac tion intermedi ated by empi re; and complex issues involved in the contemporary reproduction of histo rical documents in Korea in which the Chinese logog raphs, or premode rn spellings of the origin al may or may not be represented. We are also well on our way in transitioning to a new edito ri al team, Ch arles A rmstrong and Theodore Hughes at Columbi a University. I will continue as edito r-in-chief through volume 21 (2016), and the new team will be res ponsible fo r subsequent volumes. Exce pt fo r a few possible ext ra book or movie reviews, volume 21 (2016) is already full. The new edito ri al team will be making deci sions on new articles and thematic issues from now on. I wish them well and am looking fo rward to their insights refreshing the jou rna l while I concentrate more on my own writing. C LARK W.
