Charles Price Jones, Jesus Only, Nos. 1 and 2 Jesus Only, Nos. 1 and 2 A Review Jon Michael Spencer The Pre-Gospel Era ( 1900-1930) commenced with the gospel hymns of Charles Price Jones ( 1865-1949), the founding bishop of the Church of Christ (Holiness) U.S.A. Jones, a prolific poet and musician and the composer of over 1000 hymns and anthems, published three major collections, Jesus Only No. I (1899), Jesus Only Nos. I and 2 (1901), and His Fullness (1906). Jones gives this explanation in a brief preface to the volume in question: Jesus Only No. 1, has, by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, met with a hearty reception; chiefly, too, upon the merits of the new and original songs therein contained. For this we thank God in Christ .... Call has long been made for the Second Number combined with the First. which we have also long promised, but for reasons which He knows better than any of us, we have been delayed. But it is here at last, and we bespeak for it a much more gratifying reception than the first book had, though God has blessed it as he has. Jesus Only Nos.
