Wilhelm Lehmanns ,,Der Überläufer" als Kriegsroman? Eine editionsgeschichtliche Untersuchung von Peter Krahé Wilhelm Lehmanns autobiographischer Roman ,,Der Überläufer" (192527, erschienen 1962) wird im Lichte einer Auswahlausgabe von 2014 analysiert, die ihn als radikalen Antikriegsroman präsentiert. Lehmanns Handeln und Biographie werden mit Blick auf die Veröffentlichungsgeschichte des Werkes untersucht. Es wird gezeigt, daß Haltung und Verhalten des Protagonisten gegenüber Militär und Kriegsführung des Ersten Weltkriegs diesen auch in einem metaphorisch-übergreifenden Sinn als Überläufer ausweisen. Trotz pazifistischer und kriegskritischer Partien kann das Werk nicht als Antikriegsroman gelten. Wilhelm Lehmann's autobiographical novel "Der Überläufer" [The Deserter, 192527] is analysed against the background of a recent abridged edition presenting it as a radical anti-war novel. Lehmann's biography between the Great War and the Third Reich and the publication history of the novel are examined. It is shown that the protagonist's stance towards military institutions and his wartime behaviour make him an outsider and a deserter in a broad symbolic sense. Despite some episodes critical of war, neither the chapters selected for the abridged version nor the work as a whole can pass as a radical anti-war novel.
