To my knowledge, this is the only collection of literary studies to contain essays that explore the relationship between literature and power from a free-market standpoint in a diachronic national perspective. By asking contributors to bring together literary history and political reflection, the editors collected twenty essays, eleven of which in English and nine in Italian, that shed light both on Italian literary texts and on the various articulations that power has taken in the Peninsula from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century.
