New Perspectives for Europe–China Relations

New Perspectives for Europe–China Relations New Perspectives for Europe–China RelationsThroughout its history, the Baltic Journal of European Studies (BJES) haspredominantly been focused on the themes and scenes related to Europe andthe European Union (EU). The current Special Issue is looking far beyond, attempting to touch upon and, with a hope, to analyse a remarkable geo-strategicinitiative of modern time, the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), which is also knownin academic and political discourse as One Belt, One Road (OBOR). Proposedby Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, the BRI is directly and indirectlylinked with myriads of other China-originated handsels—for example, withthe inward-oriented concept of Chinese Dream or, from a broader perspective, the Chinese state’s bourgeoning cooperation with sixteen Central and EasternEuropean countries (16+1 Cooperation). All these developments, especiallytheir truly impressive strategic amplitude, are something that Europe (in general)and the EU (in particular) have never experienced before. Declared by Chinaas inclusive in its nature, the BRI and, for that matter, the 16+1 Cooperationare of great interest for scholars in different fields of academic research—frominternational relations to legal studies, from political economy to philosophy.Indeed, there is a high probability for a scholar to detect something intriguingwithin a framework, in which countries as different as Estonia and Croatia areengaged in cooperation http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Baltic Journal of European Studies de Gruyter
