RESUMEN Las ciencias han sido arrastradas por su producción tecnológica. Sería deseable que las ciencias sean lo más independientes posible de los intereses privados y acentuaran su función social. En este sentido, reflexionamos sobre un caso concreto en España: El problema urbanístico. Este asunto nos brinda un buen ejemplo del uso inadecuado de las ciencias y la tecnología, pero también nos ofrece un rayo de esperanza. En los últimos años están aflorando una serie de colectivos de arquitectura que apuestan por una manera diferente de entender la arquitectura y, por extensión, las relaciones sociales de convivencia.
