The space environment always affects the safety of on-orbit satellites. The scientific significance of satellite space environment detection, especially MEO orbit detection, while the Beidou constellation operates in the medium and high orbit, facing a complex and variable space environment, especially the radiation environment. Space environment detecting loads on the Beidou constellation is of great value for application.Several space environment loads are carried on the Beidou constellation, and the electronic detection load realizes the simultaneous multi-directional measurement function of 30 keV to 5.8 MeV medium and high energy electrons for the first time. The proton detector effectively reduces the electron’s pollution through the sweeping magnet. For the first time, the plasma load realizes the omni-directional field of view (360°) of electrons and ions in the energy range of 5 eV to 25 keV (×90°), the periodic injection event of hot electrons in the geomagnetic tail of geo orbit was detected continuously for the first time during the in-orbit operation. For the first time, the Single Event Upset detector has realized the simultaneous positioning measurement of the particle radiation LET spectrum and the single event flip of typical devices, and the LET spectrum range over four orders of magnitude. A new temperature correction technology is applied to the dosimetry, which improves the dose sensitivity to 1 rad. For the first time in China, the surface charging voltage and charging current are measured simultaneously. The measurement accuracy of surface charging current is 1 Pa/cm2, and the measurement accuracy of surface voltage is 10 V.This special issue of “New Technology for Space Environment Detection Based on Beidou Constellation” aims to introduce the characteristics of the space environment faced by the constellation and the composition of the load, describe the scientific problems and key processes involved in the load development, and introduce the characteristics of data quality in combination with the on-orbit operation, so as to provide support for the subsequent application.
