Foreword

Foreword PU. M. A. V ol. 30 (2022), No.1 This pro ceedings volume contains the extended abstracts of the presentations made at the 12th edition of the conference GASCom, to b e held in V arese, Italy , from 13 to 15 June 2022. More sp ecically , the program of the conference consists of three invited talks and 16 contributed talks. The conference GASCom brings together researchers in combinatorics, algorithms, probabilities, and more generally mathematical computer science, around the theme of random and exhaustive gen- eration of combinatorial structures, mostly considered from a theoretical p oint of view. In connection with this main theme, the conference is also interested in contributions in enumerative or analytic combinatorics, and interactions with other areas of mathematics, computer science, physics or biology . The conference is b oth interested in metho ds for random or exhaustive generation and in original re- sults on combinatorial or algorithmic questions, whose solution has b een made p ossible by an approach involving random or exhaustive generation. Among the main topics of the conference are the following: random and exhaustive generation of combinatorial ob jects, enumerative and analytic combinatorics, algorithmic asp ects: analysis of algorithms, probabilistic algorithms, interactions: bio-informatics, combinatorics on words, tilings,... . The contributed presentations has b een selected by the Scientic Committee, comp osed by Elena Barcucci, F rØdØrique Bassino, Anders Claesson, Sergi Elizalde, Luca F errari, Alain Goupil, Paolo Mas- sazza, T orsten Mtze, F rank Ruskey , Vincent V a jnovszki and Malvina V amv ak ari. Each submission has b een p eer-reviewed by at least two blind referees. W e wish to warmly thank the Scientic Commit- tee, whose hard work has allowed as many researchers as p ossible to present their more recent results, in the spirit of GASCom. Also, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the invited sp eakers, Cyril Banderier (LIPN, Paris, F rance), Paola Bonizzoni (University of Milan-Bico cca, Italy) and T ony Guttmann (University of Melb ourne, Australia) for their insightful lectures. W e also extend our thanks to all the memb ers of the Organizing Committee, for their willingness and for all their eorts in making this conference p ossible. Moreover we would like to thank the University of Insubria, the Department of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Florence and the municipality of V arese for supp orting GASCom 2022. Finally , we thank the University of Insubria for hosting the conference. In closing this preface, our nal thought go es to one of the founder of GASCom, Jean-Guy Penaud, who passed away a few months b efore the conference. His untimely death deeply saddened all memb ers of the scientic community and all friends of GASCom. T o honor his memory , the organizers decided to dedicate the conference to Jean-Guy , whose scientic exp ertise and friendliness will b e missed by all.
