Editorial Every year of a journal, and almost every year in scholarship brings new challenges, opportunities, and signals new departures. In this issue of JIAS, five years on since the establishment of this scholarly output of the International Arthurian Society as a stand-alone publication, the state of affairs in Arthurian Studies can be said to be truly thriving.Several themes and topics in this year’s journal speak to one another, and it is hoped further conversations will be stimulated with the society’s members along the lines of enquiry presented here. One emerging theme is that of book history and challenges to tradition, broadly understood, which feature in a number of articles. To start with, Juan Zarandona’s état présent on modern and contemporary Iberian Arthurian literature signals the world of opportunities offered by this relatively unknown area of study. Pioneering work is here contextualised alongside the traditional areas of scholarship in Iberian Arthurian studies. Zarandona explores both modern authors’ outputs and the versatility and popularity of reprints, translations and adaptations of Arthurian stories with modern Iberian audiences. Book history, the history of editions and editorial principles, bibliography and publishing also feature in the cluster ‘Approaches to Arthurian Studies: from Tradition to Innovation’, http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of the International Arthurian Society de Gruyter

Abstract

Every year of a journal, and almost every year in scholarship brings new challenges, opportunities, and signals new departures.
