Editorial DOI 10.2478/v10171-012-0034-y This issue of Archives of Electrical Engineering includes 10 selected papers prepared by participants of SENE'2011 (http://wee.p.lodz.pl/sene/). SENE (the acronym comes from Polish name Sterowanie w Energoelektronice i Napdzie Elektrycznym Control for Power Electronics and Electric Drives) is a leading Polish conference devoted to power electronics, motion control, electric drives automation, control theory and applications. SENE is a regular biennial event with a long tradition (10-th edition was hold in 2011, in Lód, as usual). The conference is organized by Institute of Automatic Control, Technical University of Lodz, under auspices of the Committee on Electrical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences. We have more than 100 participants from all Polish scientific teems engaged in the field of electrical machines, power electronics, drive systems, electrical machines, traction drives, power generation, and control of electromechanical systems as well as control theory, artificial intelligence, communication networks. The conference is well recognized among industry professionals. For this issue we have selected several papers representing variety of topics discussed during SENE, but closely related to the line of Archives of Electrical Engineering. Among the selected papers you will find a wide spectrum of subjects dealing with advanced electrical machines, new solutions for power electronics, modern nonlinear control techniques applied for drive automation, and much more. The papers were prepared by well known scientists as well as by young authors at the rising phase of their professional track. We hope that the presented issue of Archives of Electrical Engineering will be interesting and stimulating for the readers, and we expect that some of them will join us during SENE'2013 in Lód.
