Editorial DOI 10.1515/aee-2015-0001 It is our great pleasure to introduce the special issue of Archives of Electrical Engineering that includes 10 selected papers presented at the Symposium on Electrical Machines (SME) held on June 22-25 2011 in Szczawnica, Poland. SME'2014 was the 50th jubilee meeting of specialists from and international universities and industrial research centers dealing with the whole aspects of the electrical machines. Its aim was exchange of experience and presentation of new developments in the theory, construction, testing, diagnostics and applications of electrical machines. The SME symposium was organized by the Department of Electrical Machines Diagnosis Cracow University of Technology in cooperation with Department of Power Electronics and Automation of Energy Conversion Systems AGH University of Science and Technology, Sponsored by Committee on Electrical Engineering Polish Academy of Science, Co-sponsored by: Society of Theoretical and Applied Electrical Engineering ­ Krakow Section and Polish Section of IEEE. The Chairman of the Organizing Committee was Professor Tadeusz Sobczyk from the Cracow University of Technology. For this issue we have selected several papers representing variety of topics discussed during SME, but closely related to the line of Archives of Electrical Engineering. Among the selected papers you will find a wide spectrum of subjects dealing with advanced problems, new solutions and modern techniques applied for electrical machines. We sincerely hope that this issue of AEE will prove both interesting and informative for the readers.
