Editorial Lodz Papers in Pragmatics 9.2 (2013): 157158 DOI: 10.1515/lpp-2013-0009 The present issue of Lodz Papers in Pragmatics comprises six research articles and two book reviews. The contributions address various aspects of language use and its social embeddedness, taking under scrutiny the mechanisms and motivations involved in the co-construction of meaning, identity and ideology across texts, genres and public spaces. In the first article, Alejandro Parini and Luisa Granato adopt an eclectic theoretical framework in an attempt to examine the dynamics of identity construction in daily interaction. Analysing instances of casual conversations of university students in Argentina, the authors look at different types of identities, discursive resources used to construct them, as well as the correlation between emerging identities and conversation topics. The merits of a constructivist approach to identity are also illustrated by the authors of the second article, Prachee Sehgal, Dorien Van De Mieroop and Abha Chatterjee, who inquire into the women's construction of professional identities along with the notion of leadership. Going beyond the Western context, which has so far dominated research within this thematic area, the study focuses on women in the corporate sector in India.
