A Short Preface

A Short Preface 1With the present issue, Elenchos appears in a new dress and begins a new cycle with the prestigious collaboration of De Gruyter publishing company. Elenchos begins a new cycle, but does not change its identity. Since 1980 Elenchos has been a leading international journal in the area of ancient philosophy. Its policy reflects a multidisciplinary approach that is characteristic of the historical method of research and includes philosophy, philology, and the history of literature and science. Yet Elenchos regularly hosts contributions that stem from different methods and approaches to the study of ancient philosophy: what counts is rigour and excellence. In keeping with the best tradition of studies on the ancient world, Elenchos is a multilingual journal that includes outstanding research articles and substantial reviews. Last but not least, Elenchos hosts debates and discussions about the main issues that animate scholarship in this area. These are the main features that have shaped Elenchos so far, and these are the features that will shape Elenchos in the future.Over the years the previous editors of Elenchos, Gabriele Giannantoni and Anna Maria Ioppolo, have done invaluable work for this journal and we would like to express our deepest gratitude to them. We can only hope that our own work will continue along the lines set out by these eminent scholars. International scholarship, however, has undergone huge transformations over the last two decades, and we are confident that with its new cycle Elenchos will meet these challenges successfully, while preserving its distinctive qualities. Finally, we would like to thank the ILIESI–CNR and De Gruyter publishing company for their crucial support of this project. The Editors http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Elenchos de Gruyter
