South-Eastern Mediterranean Peoples Between 130,000 and 10,000 Years Ago. By Elena A.A. Garcea... This important publication, edited by Elena Garcea, covers the period during which anatomically modern humans definitively emerged in North Africa and the Levant. In recent decades this has become a key area for discussion, as Africa has become recognized as the place of origin of anatomically modern humans, and this book is important for shedding light on the events in North Africa, which have been somewhat overshadowed by the sensational discoveries in southern Africa (HensHilwood et al. 2002). The period in question begins with the last interglacial (MIS 5), a very favourable climatic period, during which important changes took place and the long process began, which led to the second successful dispersal from Africa and the spread of Homo sapiens into Eurasia (the so-called Out of Africa 2). Later chapters also discuss more recent changes, including one of the major revolutions carried out by modern humans: food production. The volume brings together North Africa and the Levant, the two main regions involved in the final phases of the Out of Africa 2 process. The contributions stem in part from a seminar organized by Diane Holmes at Rewley House in Oxford in 2003; but in addition to the original http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Journal of African Archaeology Brill
