The history of the study of the cult of Achilles on the northern coast of the Black Sea already goes back almost a hundred years. 1 This book published in Germany provides, as it were, a summary of the findings made during the many years of research on this subject. The volume, complete with prefaces from the Chairman of the Project entitled Formen und Wege der Akkulturation im östlichen Mittelmeerraum und Schwarzmeergebiete in der Antike ( Forms and Paths of Acculturation in the Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea region in Antiquity ) of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft – Heinz Heinen – and the pub- lisher, Joachim Hupe, consists of nine chapters (including the Introduction), the last of which summarizes the conclusions drawn from J. Hupe’s review of archaeological and epigraphic evidence, which makes up the content of Chapters 3-8.
