Tuberculin Testing of Children by the Mother as a Step to Tuberculosis Control

Tuberculin Testing of Children by the Mother as a Step to Tuberculosis Control Abstract It seems generally agreed that the importance of primary tuberculosis for the control of tuberculosis has been underrated in the past.1 Primary tuberculosis is not a benign disease; it carries a high mortality rate in the first years of life and is the source of all severe forms of tuberculosis in childhood and adult life.2-5 Consequently, early diagnosis and treatment of primary tuberculosis is generally recognized as the most important single measure for the control of tuberculosis.6,7 The entire problem has received a decisive stimulus by the advent of therapeutic agents effective against the tubercle bacillus. Among them, isoniazid is the most promising and has proved to be very effective in the treatment of tuberculosis.8,9 If present studies under the auspices of the U. S. Public Health Service confirm the value of isoniazid also in the treatment of primary tuberculosis it appears imperative to treat this References 1. Hsu, K. H.
