Abstract This very readable and stimulating book is the result of a five-day symposium undertaken by the American College of Physicians and is devoted entirely to the topic represented by the title of the book. The editor is to be commended for his slection of material; each chapter is written by one of the twenty-eight clinicians who participated, and, therefore, a variety of interests are represented. The pediatrician should take a special pride as he reads this book in the realization that the clinical practice of pediatrics has, unlike most other specialties, "crossed the half-way mark in its trend" toward preventive medicine, through the care of well persons. The excellent chapter entitled "The Demand for the Clinical Practice of Preventive Medicine" provides ample evidence that the public is aware of the necessity for preventive medicine and that when it is presented properly they will take advantage of it.
