Springer Nature to Add Entire Portfolio of Nearly 3,000 Journals to DeepDyve’s Online Rental Service for Scientific and Scholarly Research

Redwood City, CA and Heidelberg, Germany – September 12, 2016

DeepDyve and Springer Nature today announced an expanded partnership to bring the publisher’s full portfolio of academic and professional journals to DeepDyve’s online rental service for scientific and scholarly research. The partnership follows a successful pilot during which Springer Nature gradually added hundreds of prestigious journals into the DeepDyve service. With this expansion, DeepDyve customers will be able to access Springer Nature’s complete portfolio of over 5 million articles spanning nearly 3,000 academic journals.

“Our extensive pilot proved not only that DeepDyve helps us capture an untapped audience of knowledge workers unaffiliated with an academic or large corporate library, but that we can reach these new users without impacting our existing core markets,” said Till Moepert, Springer Nature’s vice president of eCommerce & eRetail. “We are excited to replicate this success on a larger scale by offering our complete catalogue of journals to DeepDyve’s customers.”

DeepDyve and Springer Nature are well aligned by their desire to broaden access to scholarly content. With careful usage analysis along each step of the way, the collaboration that began as a modest pilot grew steadily to encompass over 1 million articles across all of Springer Nature’s subject areas. Springer Nature’s decision to make its full catalogue of journals available via DeepDyve is a natural extension of that rigorous process, and reflects the companies’ shared commitment to innovation and access.

“DeepDyve’s unique technology and focused strategy to reach unaffiliated users have successfully proven to Springer Nature that they can reach and monetize new customers without compromising their existing revenue streams,” said William Park, DeepDyve’s CEO. “This held true over the course of our pilot, and we’re pleased to take the next step together and provide our customers access to Springer Nature’s complete portfolio.”

Springer Nature will first make its roster of Springer journals available via DeepDyve this Fall, followed shortly thereafter by its Nature and Palgrave MacMillan titles. With this announcement, DeepDyve’s holdings will grow significantly to over 17 million rentable articles across nearly 13,000 peer-reviewed journals.
